The Parish Council are keen to tackle issues in the village before they turn into problems. Whilst the council have limited powers to take direct action, it can lobby those in other organisations ( Police, Sevenoaks District Council, Kent County Council) that do. The best way to have a problem resolved is through detailed evidence and regular reporting.
Below are the reports that we, and members of the Parish, are currently working on.
Ancient Woodland November 2022
Halstead Parish Council, alongside local volunteers, have completed and published a report on Ancient Woodland that makes up 7% of the Parish of Halstead, Sevenoaks.
Chair of Halstead Parish Council, Cllr Jean Peel said “Our Parish Council is very concerned about the loss and despoilation of Green Belt, AONB and Ancient Woodland. We decided that it was necessary to identify areas of Ancient Woodland in our Parish so that in the future it is possible for us to object to any destruction of these areas.
We need to educate our parishioners about the value of our Ancient Woodlands before they are destroyed by uncaring landowners.
Halstead used to be a heavily wooded area on the top of the North Downs and we are fortunate that we still retain 7% of our Parish as Ancient Woodland whereas the national average is only 2.5%.”
